Project Scope:

On this project, we were assigned to work on an App for the real business. We are going to work on WHOLE FOODS application and will be improved users experience by our design.

DESIGN STUDIO

After knowing all needs and goals of our primary persona and analyzing the competitors, as an information architect I facilitated my team to conduct the design studio. This activity helped us to review all features of current app and the features we wanted to implement and develop in our project for this app.

Flow diagram:

For next step of design process, it is interaction designer’s role to create the steps that our users should pass to complete their tasks through the new app. Then I drew user flow to visualize every single step in this app and revised some of steps.

Sketches:

Sketches are helpful for me as interaction designer in my team. This is the best way to bring ideas after having all data you need on paper and review them and try different styles.

Wireframes:

After having tested out paper prototype by researcher of team and have feedbacks, I stared of creating our wireframes for our design as interaction designer of team. Then we would be able to have more usability test and have users feeling about this clickable version of our design.

Usability Test (wireframes):

I created clickable prototype of our wireframes and again asked Irene to have usability test on this version.

Result of wireframe version prototype:

·       They were confused by two icons at the middle of signing screen.

·       What is different between “create an account “and “Browse as Guest”?

·       What are the two add buttons in front of each product?

·       They really liked the idea of picking up their pre-ordered products form store.

After receiving these feedbacks on my wireframes, I realized most of problems come from not having enough information and visual aspect of my design in my wireframes. So, I jumped to design my high-fidelity version of the app and then ask to test it for having more clear feedback.

High-fidelity clickable screens: (first iteration)

Feedback on Hi-Fi prototype:

·       Users confused with email icon, what is this envelop icon?

·       In home page (grocery shopping page); one user thought it was premade shopping list. They didn’t realize it was the main page.

·       They liked the visual aspect of application.

·       They needed to have categories in home page, so they could find their products easier.

·       Some of them confused with OCR feature.

·       They liked the idea of barcode scanner which enable them to find any product by scanning their barcode.

I got feedback on shopping cart icon. They expected to see the shopping cart icon on top right side of screen

Next step…

·       OCR feature

This feature will scan paper shopping lists and printed recipes and add the items to users shopping list.

·       Siri Integration

Use Siri to add items to the shopping list

·       Item Locator feature

For use when shopping in the store. Items on the users shopping list will have the aisle and shelf location in their local store.

What I learned:

·       I learned how to manage a UX design team as a project manager. How to create list of activities need to be done by the end of project and their timings.

·       It was my first experience for working on a team project as a UX designer.

·       How to share and discuss my idea to my team member for this team work project.

·       I learned how to collaborate with my team member on different subjects and participate to variety of activities.

·       How to facilitate my only team member on their tasks when they need my help.

One great experience for me was, how to work under pressure when you need to meet deadlines, since in this project I worked in a two-man team!!!
